Short answer
Match is one of the oldest online dating services and skews older than swipe apps. Romance scammers target established daters with long, patient conversations. The rule that stops them: never send money to someone you have not met in person, and verify with a video call early.
Why scammers like it
Romance scammers look for people with savings and a sincere interest in a relationship. The FTC's data shows the same stories over and over: military posting, oil rig, doctor abroad, a crypto opportunity, a package stuck in customs (FTC).
Check your match before you meet
Private search. Nobody is notified.
Checks before you invest emotionally
- Video call in the first week or two.
- Reverse-search two photos.
- Search their full name and city; look for a long public history.
- Run the free romance scam checker if anything feels off.
Can you check if someone is on Match?
There is no legitimate way to search Match for a specific person or to see whether someone is active. Apps do not publish member lists or "last active" data, and services claiming to show it are misleading or break the app's rules. What you can do: check publicly indexed photos and usernames, and ask directly. See is he still on dating apps?
Know who you are dealing with
Search a name, phone number or email to see public profiles and records.
