Tinder at a glance
- Owner: Match Group.
- Verification: Photo Verification (blue check) via real-time selfies; ID verification in some markets.
- Public profiles: only if a user created a username, which gives them a page at tinder.com/@username. Most never do.
- Video chat: built into the app after matching.
Private search. Nobody is notified.
Tinder scams to know
- Fake "safety verification" links: a match asks you to verify on an outside site that takes your card and signs you up for paid adult sites. Tinder does not verify you through links from matches.
- Move-to-WhatsApp, then crypto: see crypto romance scams.
- Bots: instant long replies that ignore what you said, often with a link.
- Sextortion: early requests for photos; see what to do.
Can you check if someone is on Tinder?
There is no legitimate way to search Tinder for a specific person or to see whether someone is active. Apps do not publish member lists or "last active" data, and services claiming to show it are misleading or break the app's rules. What you can do: check publicly indexed photos and usernames, and ask directly. See is he still on dating apps?
If the person created a Tinder username, their public page at tinder.com/@username can be found with our username search.
Verify your match
Follow how to verify a Tinder match: reverse-search two photos, search the name with their city, look up their number, and do a short in-app video call.
