Toll-free number checker
Paste a list of phone numbers and every toll-free number (800, 833, 844, 855, 866, 877, 888) is flagged. Copy the numbers that are left or download the full result as a CSV. Runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
10-digit numbers without + are read as US/Canada (+1).
How to tell if a number is toll-free
Look at the area code. A US or Canadian number is toll-free when its area code is 800, 833, 844, 855, 866, 877 or 888. The caller pays nothing and the business that owns the number pays for the call, which is why companies use them for sales and support lines.
Toll-free numbers are not tied to a city or time zone, so area-code based calling-hours rules cannot place them. If one shows up in a consumer lead list, it is usually a company number rather than the person you want to reach.
What the area code can't tell you
Every other number on your list still needs checking. A regular area code says nothing about whether the line is mobile, landline or VoIP, or whether it is still connected. Those only show up with a live carrier lookup.
Upload a CSV. Get back every number marked valid or dead, mobile, landline, VoIP or toll-free, with carrier.

Questions
Which area codes are toll-free?
In the US and Canada the toll-free codes in service are 800, 833, 844, 855, 866, 877 and 888. The North American Numbering Plan also sets aside 822, 880 to 887 and 889 for future toll-free use, so the checker flags those as reserved toll-free codes.
Why remove toll-free numbers from a lead list?
A toll-free number almost always belongs to a business line, call center or support queue, not a person. In a list meant for calling or texting consumers, it usually means the lead typed a company number or the list source scraped one. Most toll-free numbers cannot receive ordinary text messages either.
Is my list uploaded anywhere?
No. The numbers are read in your browser. Nothing is sent to TrueSearch or anyone else, and nothing is stored after you close the page.
Can it tell mobile from landline or VoIP?
No. The area code only reveals toll-free numbers. Whether a regular number is mobile, landline or VoIP, and whether it is still in service, takes a live carrier lookup, which is what TrueSearch for Business does.
Does it handle numbers in any format?
Yes. (800) 555-0199, 1-800-555-0199, 800.555.0199 and +1 800 555 0199 are all read as the same number, and repeats are marked as duplicates. Numbers with another country code are listed as non-US/Canada.
This guide is general information, not legal advice. TrueSearch for Business checks validity, line type and carrier from licensed telecom data. It does not check the National Do Not Call Registry, state DNC lists or the FCC Reassigned Numbers Database. Not a consumer reporting agency; not for FCRA purposes.
