Debt collection phone list calculator
For collection agencies, first-party recovery teams and debt buyers working placement files or aged portfolios: estimate how much of the phone data is still reachable and what the dead numbers cost in collector time or text budget. Every rate is editable; nothing is stored.
Why collection phone data goes bad
- The phone number on an account is usually the one the consumer gave the original creditor, which can be years before the account reached collections.
- Charged-off and resold portfolios pass through several owners, and numbers that have since been disconnected stay on the file.
- Files that have been worked by earlier agencies keep the same numbers whether or not anyone ever answered them.
- A share of any file is landline or VoIP, which matters if your outreach includes SMS.
How to get your real numbers
- Pull a random sample of 500 to 1,000 phone numbers from one creditor or one placement.
- Validate it against live carrier data (TrueSearch for Business does this in about 30 seconds per 1,000).
- Enter the dead, landline and VoIP percentages you get back above.
- Repeat per creditor or placement age to see which files give your collectors the most reachable numbers.

Are the default rates typical for collection placement files?
No. They are editable placeholders, not debt collection industry statistics. Rates vary a lot by creditor, account age and how many times the file has been worked. Validate a sample of your own file and enter what you find.
How should I set list age for an aged or resold portfolio?
Use the months since the phone number was last confirmed with the consumer, not since the account was placed with you. Phone numbers on charged-off or resold accounts can be years older than the placement date.
Does this help with FDCPA or Regulation F compliance?
No. The calculator only estimates reachability, and TrueSearch for Business checks validity, line type and carrier. It does not scrub against Do Not Call registries or litigator lists, track call frequency, verify consent or confirm who owns a number today. Follow your own compliance program and counsel for FDCPA, Regulation F and TCPA requirements.
Why do landlines count against texting?
Landlines cannot receive text messages, so every text sent to one is wasted. For calling, a landline can still reach a person, so only dead numbers count as wasted dials.
This guide is general information, not legal advice. TrueSearch for Business checks validity, line type and carrier from licensed telecom data. It does not check the National Do Not Call Registry, state DNC lists or the FCC Reassigned Numbers Database. Not a consumer reporting agency; not for FCRA purposes.
