Cost of dead dials calculator
Enter your team size, dial volume and the share of numbers that are dead. See the rep hours, labor and telecom minutes those dials burn each month and each year. Every input is editable; nothing is stored.
How the math works
- Dead dials per month = reps × dials per rep per day × dialing days × dead share.
- Rep hours lost = dead dials × seconds lost per dead dial ÷ 3,600.
- Rep labor = rep hours lost × loaded hourly cost.
- Telecom = dead dials × billed minutes per dial (at least one) × cost per minute.
How to get your real dead-number rate
- Pull a random sample of 500 to 1,000 numbers from the list your team is dialing.
- Validate it against live carrier data (TrueSearch for Business does about 1,000 numbers in 30 seconds).
- Enter the dead percentage you get back above.
- Remove the dead numbers before they reach the dialer, and re-check lists that sit for months.
Check a single number with the free carrier lookup, estimate a whole list with the list health calculator, or read why your dialer keeps hitting dead numbers.

Are the default numbers industry averages?
No. They are editable placeholders, not statistics. Your dead-number rate depends on where the list came from and how old it is. Validate a sample of your own list and enter the rate you find.
What counts as a dead dial?
A dial to a number that is disconnected, not in service or not a real number: the call ends in an intercept message, a fast busy or no connection. Voicemails and no-answers on working numbers are not counted here.
Why is telecom billed per minute here?
Many dialers and carriers bill each connected call in whole minutes or with a minimum, and intercept messages can connect. If your plan is flat-rate or bills by the second, set the per-minute cost to 0 or adjust it.
Does removing dead numbers make my list compliant?
No. Validation removes dead numbers and tells you line type and carrier. TrueSearch for Business does not check the National Do Not Call Registry, state DNC lists or consent. Use donotcall.gov and your own consent records for that.
This guide is general information, not legal advice. TrueSearch for Business checks validity, line type and carrier from licensed telecom data. It does not check the National Do Not Call Registry, state DNC lists or the FCC Reassigned Numbers Database. Not a consumer reporting agency; not for FCRA purposes.
